Farewell To The Atkins Low Carb Diet

Atkins Nutritionals just recently announced that they’re filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It appears that the “low carb craze” was nothing more than just a passing fad. Well my buddies I have come to both praise and bury the Atkins Diet.

I first found low carbohydrate diet programs about 15 years in the past — well before their recent recognition. My initial introduction was by means of a book entitled “The Endocrine Control Diet.” Like the Atkins Diet along with other low carbohydrate diets for that matter, it was based on a severely restricted carbohydrate consumption — less than 50 grams of carbohydrates each day. You place the body of yours into a state of ketosis and force it to burn up fat rather than glucose.

I was surprised about how quick I managed to drop pounds on the diet. If memory serves correctly, I dropped 15 lbs in little over 7 days. Of course, a percentage of it was water as well as muscle weight, though I additionally dropped quite a great deal of unwanted fat. I can tell it was fat because my waistline shrunk considerably.

The “Endocrine Control Diet” was rigid about keeping carbs low as well as staying in a state of ketosis until you hit the weight loss goal of yours. This was tracked on a daily basis by peeing on Keto Strips to ensure you are still in ketosis. I remained on the diet for aproximatelly two months before reverting back to my former diet. The interesting thing was that I was able to keep the weight of mine down for another three months prior to taking back up to the place I was before the diet.

I really should mention that during the diet that I was lifting weights and working on cardio exercise on a regular schedule. I truly think this factor was essential in retaining lean muscle mass while decreasing so much body fat as you can while on a calorie restricted, low carb diet.

In the intervening years I tried different low carb diet plans which were most variations on a single design. The main constant for me was keeping up with the weight training of mine and cardio exercise. Each and whenever I managed to drop fifteen – 20 lbs within 3 weeks and keep it off for a minimum of 3 months after stopping the diet.

The biggest problem I’ve with low carb diet plans is that I am privately not able to remain on them for more that 3 months at a time. It is just too damn hard! Let us face it I like my carbs. Being of Italian extraction I was raised on bread as well as pasta. I in addition like Chinese food with extra rice and have a fondness for potatoes. Most these nuts are taboo on a low carbohydrate diet!

In the long run, a low carb diet plan just isn’t so reasonable or perhaps extremely sociable for alpilean complaints – forum.yealink.com, that matter. I’ve never been very worried about the health effects though. I have had my cholesterol tested both on and off the low carbohydrate diet programs and there have been no variation in the readings even when I have consumed extra fat throughout some of the diet plans. My total cholesterol has definitely hovered around 200, which could be lower, but is the cutoff for a regular level.
