For Hewett, the day ended on a positive note following a frustrating start, as he avenged his singles defeat to Fernandez.
The 19-year-old from Norfolk was hoping to add the Wimbledon singles title to last month’s French Open success.
It was Fernandez that he beat in the final at Roland Garros, but this time Hewett suffered a 4-6 7-6 (11/9) 6-2 setback.Fernandez will tackle Reid’s quarter-final conqueror Stefan Olsson in the championship match.
There could also be trophy success for Britain in the women’s wheelchair doubles after Jordanne Whiley and Japanese partner Yui Kamiji won 6-4 6-4 against Holland’s Aniek van Koot and American Dana Mathewson to reach their final.
