Drake dances around his Toronto mansion in new video Toosie Slide

With music video shoots on hold amid the pandemic, had to get creative for his latest hit.

The rapper starts a new viral dance craze with his new video Toosie Slide which he filmed at his mansion in Toronto and produced with the help of some popular YouTube, Instagram and TikTok dancers.

The clip first opens with shots of some empty streets in his native city, which is on lockdown like many major cities in the US and Europe.

Directed by Theo Skudra, the rapper dances around his home while wearing a Nike balaclava, camouflage jacket and gloves.

The 33-year-old also didn’t miss the opportunity to include a tribute to Kobe Bryant.

At around the 55-second mark of the video two jerseys with the NBA legend’s numbers 8 and 24 are seen laid out on a desk. 

Drake dances through the room which appears to hold some of his music awards as well memorabilia and pieces of art. 

Kobe passed away in a helicopter crash in January and Drake has honored the athlete on numerous occasions including painting the numbers 8 and 24 on his basketball court several weeks ago.

Inspired by viral dance trends and video platform TikTok Drake starts another dance trend as he raps: ‘It go right foot up, left foot, slide/Left foot up, right foot, slide,

‘Basically, I’m saying, either way, we ’bout to slide/Can’t let this one slide.’

Social media influencer Toosie revealed to that it was Drake that reached out to him to collaborate.   

‘Drake hit me up and was like, “Yo, I need your help,”‘

‘So he sends the record. It was just an idea at the time. It was just the hook and a verse. I came up with this dance. [Drake said,] “What you think? You think you can come up with a dance for this song that I made?”

The dance crew came up with the moves and gave Drake a rough idea of the dance less than 45 minutes after he reached out. 

‘We came up with it pretty fast. We just all pieced it together. We all contributed.’ Toosie said of teaming up with his friends and fellow choreographers Ayo, Teo and Hii Key.

The friends revealed they had hoped to film a music video with Drake.

Teo added, ‘The coronavirus messed up the dropping schedule. He was gon’ have us in the music video and junk, but the coronavirus messed it up. So it took us two extra weeks to drop the video we made for it.’

The Toronto rapper gave fans a taste of what to expect from his hotly-anticipated follow-up to 2018 LP Scorpion by unleashing the tracks When to Say When and Chicago Freestyle on SoundCloud last month, along with one music video for both songs, and he also released the song War.

The God’s Plan hitmaker rapped about fatherhood and his Billboard chart records on When to Say When, mentioning the mother of his two-year-old son, Adonis, Sophie Brussaux.

On one verse, he raps: ‘Ayy, 33 years, I gave that to the game/ 33 mill, I save that for the ring/ 500 weeks, I fill the charts with my pain … Baby mama fluke, but I love her for who she is… (sic)’ 

Back in December, Drake announced he was ‘finishing up’ his new album.
